Aunque es verdad que cada día más teléfonos pueden navegar por la Web, también es verdad que muchos teléfonos
móviles solo disponen de una capacidad limitada para mostrar gran parte de los contenidos de Internet.
Los vídeos que se reproducen con Adobe Flash Players, como los del New York Times, la CNN y Technology Review, y
las páginas Web hechas en Flash smplemente no funcionan en muchos teléfonos debido a que el software es
incompatible con el hardware. Ahora, en una iniciativa para abrir más la Web a los dispositivos móviles, Adobe
y el fabricante de microchips ARM, con el que funcionan el 90% de todos los teléfonos del mundo, han anunciado
una colaboración para garantizar que el software de Adobe funcione bien en los futuros dispositivos de ARM.

Microsoft rechaza hacer nueva oferta por Yahoo

Según un artículo publicado este mes en Technology Review, las acciones de Yahoo

Google lanza un buscador con más de 10 millones de fotos de la revista Life


Podríamos debatir durante horas si es cierto o no el viejo dicho de que una imagen vale más que mil palabras. Pero estaremos todos de acuerdo en que una buena foto hecha en el momento justo puede simbolizar grandes acontecimientos de la Historia. Es lo que sucede en la imagen superior, en la que el fotógrafo Preston Keres captó a un bombero neoyorquino pidiendo apoyo a los equipos de rescate, sólo cuatro días después del atentado contra las Torre Gemelas del 11 de septiembre de 2001. Es una de las más de 10 millones de fotografías realizadas por la revista Life desde la década de 1750, recientemente hospedadas por Google en este buscador especial. Un enorme archivo de imágenes puestas de forma completamente gratuita a disposición del gran público. Y en la mayoría de los casos, por primera vez, pues el 97% de las imágenes recogidas nunca llegaron a ser publicadas.

Launch Control, fuegos artificiales por control remoto

Fuegos artificiales con mando a distancia. Esta es la última idea que ha desarrollado la empresa inglesa Maplin, para hacer los fuegos artificiales mucho más cómodos y seguros. El invento se llama Launch Control y funciona con un mando a distancia y unos receptores que se enganchan a los cohetes en cuestión. De esta manera, el encargado de los fuegos puede situarse a una distancia prudencial de 25 metros, asegurando su
integridad en el momento de las detonaciones.
En total se pueden lanzar hasta cinco fuegos de una tirada, gracias a un sistema que sujeta con pinzas cada uno de los explosivos. Estos se encuentran conectados a un control remoto dirigido con el mando a distancia que tenemos en nuestras manos. Gracias a este mecanismo, el aparato activa una mecha en una fracción de segundo y enciende los cohetes que están enganchados al otro extremo, preparados para estallar en colores.
El funcionamiento es muy sencillo, pero está especialmente recomendado para los que suelen manejar fuegos artificiales complejos. Y no nos valen los organizadores de los fuegos de Pekín 2008, especialistas en falsear espectáculos. Aun así, cualquier aficionado, puede adquirir el Launch Control en la misma tienda de Maple, dónde están ofreciendo las últimas unidades del producto, al precio de doce euros.

Espasa copia sus textos de la Wikipedia

Como si esto fuera el aula de un cole. La famosa editorial Espasa, líder indiscutible en esto de hacer enciclopedias en España, ha plagiado a la Wikipedia. La que fuera la enciclopedia más criticada e infravalorada, ha servido esta vez de mucho a Espasa. Fue José Manuel Moreno, el autor de la entrada sobre el escritor del siglo de oro Baltasar Gracián, quien se percató del plagio. Luego, un blog se hizo eco de la noticia y el artículo que denunciaba el tema, sirvió para abrir la caja de los truenos. Y es que a Espasa le han pillado copiando. Y mucho.
Pero la biografía de Baltasar Gracián no es la única. También se han copiado, entre otros, las vidas de personajes tan conocidos como Voltaire, Dámaso Alonso, Azorín o Vladimir Nabokov. La relación de nombres se evidencia en una nueva entrada de la Wiki, en la que se recoge una muestra de todos los plagios hallados hasta el momento. Por su parte, Espasa aseguró al diario El Mundo, que había eliminado estos contenidos de su página en menos de 45 minutos, al mismo tiempo que pasaba la pelota al tejado de una empresa externa, que al parecer se encarga del diseño de la nueva página web de la editorial.

El BeoSound 5 reúne todas las características fundamentales en un producto de Bang & Olufsen. Al igual que otras referencias de la firma, este servidor musical se presenta en sociedad con un diseño distinguido, con ese toque de elitismo que tanto les gusta. Y un precio desorbitado que, además de quitar el hipo a cualquiera, no se corresponde del todo con lo que ofrece. Que tampoco es nada del otro mundo, por cierto.

MSR-H01, una araña robot fácil de montar

Montar tú mismo un robot casero puede parecer complicado. Sobre todo si se trata de un modelo de seis patas, como este MSR-H01 de la compañía Micromagic Systems. Y para terminar de rizar el rizo, la cosa se complica del todo si ¡ni siquiera incluye las instrucciones de montaje! Pero no hay que alarmarse. Las indicaciones para ensamblar las piezas de esta araña robótica sólo están disponibles en la web para abaratar costes. Basta con seguir las instrucciones de los dibujos para darse cuenta de que, en realidad, no es para tanto.

Flapping display. Samsung presenta una pantalla OLED de 0,05 milímetros de grosor

Es una pantalla de cuatro pulgadas con sólo 0,05 milímetros de grosor. Se llama “Flapping display” emplea la tecnología OLED y la ha presentado la firma Samsung en la FDP International 2008 (feria que se celebra en Yokohama, Japón).

La noticia es que esta corporación coreana ha sido capaz de fabricar una de las pantallas flexibles más delgadas del mundo. Tiene el mismo grosor cinco folios juntos. El panel OLED es tan fino que podríamos moverlo con el aire que produce un simple ventilador, como si fuera una cartulina.

Este es el invento que todos los aficionados a la cocina han deseado tener alguna vez: una sartén con termómetro incorporado. Pese a tratarse de un accesorio sencillo (incluso de sentido común en algunas ocasiones), hasta ahora sólo aparecían por la cocina en modelos lujosos de barbacoas tecnológicas. La crisis afecta a muchos sectores, entre ellos el publicitario. Pero, por el momento, Internet resiste el estancamiento general de las inversiones. Y es que durante la primera mitad de 2008 los anunciantes han invertido un 39,46% más en Internet que durante el mismo periodo del año pasado. En total, durante los seis primeros meses del año la inversión en publicidad online en España asciende a 307,24 millones de euros, según la Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)

Podríamos debatir durante horas si es cierto o no el viejo dicho de que una imagen vale más que mil palabras. Pero estaremos todos de acuerdo en que una buena foto hecha en el momento justo puede simbolizar grandes acontecimientos de la Historia. Es lo que sucede en la imagen superior, en la que el fotógrafo Preston Keres captó a un bombero neoyorquino pidiendo apoyo a los equipos de rescate, sólo cuatro días después del atentado contra las Torre Gemelas del 11 de septiembre de 2001.

Walking Assist Device. Honda renueva su asistente robótico para caminar

El asistente robótico para caminar de Honda ya tiene una nuevo compañero. La compañía japonesa ya enseñó su primer modelo del Walking Assist Device en abril de este mismo año. Ahora, unos meses después, anuncian esta nueva versión. Las diferencias con respecto al anterior no son sólo en su diseño, sino también en su misión. En lugar de personas con problemas para caminar, este exoesqueleto está destinado a trabajadores que sí pueden andar como cualquier otra persona.

HTC Touch HD - A fondo

Grandes argumentos a favor y en contra. Es la forma más sencilla en la que podemos resumir nuestras impresiones sobre el HTC Touch HD, el último teléfono táctil que llega al mercado español, y a cuya presentación oficial pudimos asistir ayer martes en Madrid. Y curiosamente, algunos de estos aciertos e inconvenientes están juntos en un mismo elemento: la pantalla. Empecemos por lo bueno: tiene la pantalla más grande y de mayor resolución montada hasta la fecha en un teléfono, algo que se agradece mucho en todo equipo que se maneja aplicando el dedo sobre su superficie.
